Along with our Year 7 students, we are currently working on American Traditions and Landmarks. During this unit, we will write the date like Americans do: Day of the week – comma – Month and number followed by -th (or -st, -nd, -st), so for instance Thursday, November 7th (you need to read it “Thursday November the seventh”).
We have started with the Presidential Elections in the US, as the voting system differs from France. We have created a mindmap WHO/ WHERE/ WHEN/ WHAT to sum up the relevant information and organize our thoughts. We have learnt some new vocabulary, including “electors”, “congressional districts”, “Vice-President”, “ballot box”, “Senators”.
The video below provides some relevant insight into the voting system:
In addition, one student has cooked a pumpkin pie and explained which ingredients she used: sugar, one pumpkin, eggs, flour, butter…While we were eating, other students talked about the Manhattan Bridge, the Statue of Liberty, Hollywood and baseball.

What is your favourite American dessert? Which city in the US would you like to visit? Please share your thoughts with us!
